Eugene E. Smith
President/CEO
Prior to co-founding
BridgeCare Hospitals, LLC in
2006, and Preferred
Continuum Care in 2004, Mr.
Smith was President and CEO
of Meadowbrook Healthcare,
Inc., an owner/operator of
Rehabilitation and Long Term
Acute Care hospitals. Under
his leadership,
Meadowbrook’s same store
annual EBITDA grew from $6
million to $11 million. Mr.
Smith co-founded HealthSouth
Corporation in 1983, and
held various senior
management positions during
his eighteen year tenure
with the company. In his
capacity as Senior Vice
President of Operations, Mr.
Smith led a variety of
healthcare facility
operations, start-up
activities and development
activities. He was
responsible for all of
HealthSouth’s surgery and
outpatient operations west
of the Mississippi including
Hawaii and Alaska, the
company’s largest geographic
area. Facilities under his
leadership included surgical
hospitals, rehabilitation
hospitals, diagnostic
centers, ambulatory surgical
centers, and outpatient
rehab services. His
responsibilities comprised
over 400 facilities with net
revenues in excess of $750
million. Mr. Smith’s thirty
years of healthcare
management experience also
include Operations Director
for Lifemark Shared Services
(Houston, TX), and various
department management
positions in the non-profit
acute care hospital setting.
Mr. Smith earned his B.A. in
Health Science from College
of Scholastica, in Duluth,
MN.
Christopher J. Smith
Vice-President/CFO
Mr. Smith was the former
Executive Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer of
Meadowbrook Healthcare,
Inc., a privately owned
operator of post-acute
hospitals. Mr. Smith was
instrumental in building the
infrastructure of that
company and transitioning
the hospitals from their
previous owner, while
guiding the hospitals into a
new prospective payment
system. During his tenure
at Meadowbrook, EBITDA grew
100% in a two year period.
Prior to Meadowbrook, Mr.
Smith was Chief Financial
Officer of E-Base
Interactive, Inc., a
privately owned information
technology company,
specializing in custom
application development
using current Internet
technologies. Prior to
serving in that capacity,
Mr. Smith was Chief
Financial Officer for
Genus.net, Inc., formerly
Genus Aesthetic Medical and
Dental Group, Inc. The
Genus entity was a
venture-backed company
originally formed to build a
physician practice
management network for
retail doctors, later
transforming to an Internet
portal for these same
physician groups. Mr. Smith
played a key role in both
rounds of equity financing
with several large venture
capital groups.
Additionally, he was
primarily responsible for
closing all mergers and
acquisitions that grew the
company to $30 million in
revenue in just two years.
Prior to his role at Genus,
Mr. Smith served as Director
of Financial Transition for
the Eastern Division of
MedPartners, now Caremark.
In that role, Mr. Smith was
responsible for integrating
all mergers and acquisitions
into the financial
operations of the company.
Mr. Smith began his career
with Ernst and Young. He
earned his BS in Accounting
with a minor in English from
Birmingham Southern College,
and a graduate diploma in
International Studies from
University of Sidney,
Sidney, Australia. Mr. Smith
is a member of American
Institute of CPAs and the
Alabama Society of CPAs.
Laura F. Kammann, JD
Vice President, Corporate
Development
Prior to joining the
Company, Ms. Kammann was a
partner of Moore and
Associates, LLC (Attorneys)
where she provided legal and
consulting services relating
to healthcare mergers and
acquisitions, Certificate of
Need, and business
entities. She previously
served as Regional Director
of Corporate Development for
HealthSouth Corporation
where she was responsible
for development of
ambulatory surgery centers
through acquisitions and de
novo projects. Before
joining HealthSouth, Ms.
Kammann formed Sage
Management, Inc., where she
was President and CEO, and
later sold the company to
and joined Community Health
Systems (Orange Beach) as VP
of Management and
Consulting. Through Sage
and CHS, she managed
operations for 25 assisted
living facilities; developed
operating budgets and
marketing plans;
participated on a task force
to reform State regulations
for assisted living
facilities; developed
policies and procedures;
prepared feasibility
studies, business plans, and
regulatory compliance plans;
recruited management staff;
and conducted due diligence
for company and client
acquisitions and new
development. Previously, Ms.
Kammann served as CFO, and
later as President and CEO
of Magnolia Manors
Management, an
owner/operator of assisted
living facilities. In this
position, she managed over
200 employees and increased
overall census from 67% to
98%. She obtained project
financing and managed real
estate transactions as VP
for a related company. Ms.
Kammann began her career as
an Accountant for the
Alabama Department of Public
Health. She is a member of
the Alabama State Bar. She
earned her Juris Doctorate
from Jones School of Law
(magna cum laude), and her
BS in Business
Administration from Auburn
University.
Richard L. Chambers
Director of Corporate
Services
Richard L. Chambers serves
as Director of Corporate
Services for BridgeCare.
With over 35 years of
healthcare operating
experience, he previously
served as Senior Vice
President of Operations and
Administration for Source
Medical Solutions, a
software solution company
for outpatient facilities.
Prior to Source Medical, Mr.
Chambers served in various
capacities in the Outpatient
division of HealthSouth
Corporation for over 15
years. His most recent
position was Group Vice
President of Administration
and Operations. During his
tenure with HealthSouth he
established thirteen
regional billing offices and
managed billing and
collection functions for the
entire Outpatient Division.
Mr. Chambers was the Project
Manager for the HealthSouth
Clinical Automation Project
which was a wireless
clinical documentation
system for physical and
occupational therapy. This
product was installed
nationally in over 1,000
outpatient locations. Prior
to HealthSouth, Mr. Chambers
served as Hospital
Administrator for Hospital
Management Associates and
was President and General
Manager of Home Medical
Rentals, Inc., a wholly
owned subsidiary of
Healthdyne, Inc. Mr.
Chambers has served on the
Board of Students in Free
Enterprise (SIFE), completed
projects with the United
States Olympic Committee and
is a charter member of Kids
Chance Scholarship Committee
founded by the Worker’s
Compensation section of the
Alabama Bar Association.
